Legynds put on fantastic performances over the weekend in Las Vegas across their 3 different age groups.
The Legynds 17U squad continued a spectacular season at the EYCL level, going 4-0. They opened their weekend with a 53-28 victory over TT Reform Sports. This victory was led by Jojo Baba, who had 17 points, and right behind him was DJ Rhodes, who had 15 of his own. Game 2 was a much slimmer victory but a win nonetheless. Legynds beat the Pluto Prospects 73-71 in a game that went down to the wire. Chauncey Cravens took control with 15 points and 6 assists. Javier Richards was dominant around the glass with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The 17U squad kept the momentum going into their third game, a dominant 66-39 blowout of MS Blue Smoke. Cravens went off again for 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Rhodes added 12 points, and Xzavier Mbroh tacked on another 7 points right behind them.
The 17s completed their perfect weekend with another victory over MS Blue Smoke, this time 62-50. Richards had an all-around game with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Josiah Ankrah had a major impact on the victory with 14 points. To close it off, Rhodes was a defensive monster in this victory with 11 points and 2 blocks.
The 16U squad opened their weekend witha 56-44 win over LivOn. This victory was led by Marceles Duncan, who had 18 points, and Dylan Betts was on the same page with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double. Caden Miller added 8 points, 2 steals, and an assist.
Duncan built off his solid start and dropped 34 points in the next game, leading Legynds to a 97-44 destruction of Howard Pulley. Betts also had a solid performance with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Douglas was dishing out the ball with ease in this game with a healthy 14 points, 5 boards, 14 assists, and 6 steals.
Game 3 didn’t end how the Legynds would have liked it to, with an 82-71 loss to NW Rotary. Duncan managed to put up 18 points, and another 16 points were added from Douglas. Caden Miller had 12 points and 6 rebounds. While Owens followed behind with 10 points.
The 16’s had a strong response in the next game, beating Indy Heat 72-51. This bounce-back victory was led by 19 points from Duncan and a 14-point, 6-assist game from Douglas. Betts put up 10 points and 9 rebounds, and Owens continued to dish it out with 5 assists.
Closing the weekend for the 16U Legynds, they won a 67-65 nail-biter over Vegas Elite. Duncan and Douglas continue to showed what a great duo they are, with Duncan posting 19 points, 7 boards, and 5 blocks, and Douglas with 15 points and 4 assists. Betts complements them once again with 14 points and 7 boards.
The 15U team had an up and down weekend with some dominant wins and tough losses. They opened with a 62-53 win over LivOn. Luke Noles dropped 12 points and 6 boards, leading the squad. Timothy Young added 11 points and 4 steals. Cameron Chambers tacked on 11 points, and Tyse Williams closed the victory off with 10 points and 3 steals.
Game 2 was the most dominant of the weekend for the 15U Legynds as they beat Howard Pulley 90-38. This win was led by Michael Witherspoon Jr who had 24 points. Williams was right there with him, adding on an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double of his own. Noles added 15 points and 3 steals to the stat sheet. Finally, LeGend Riley was a force around the glass, grabbing 9 boards.
The Legynds struggled to find their rhythm in game 3, falling 61-53 against the Indy Heat. This loss was led by 13 points from Williams and 11 combined rebounds between Riley and Chambers.
The fourth game of the weekend was a 69-65 loss to NW Rotary. Timothy Young was a major bright spot in the loss, with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Ajani Jones added 12 points and a block to the losing effort, and Williams added 13 points and 3 rebounds, but these weren’t enough to pull out the victory.
The 15s closed their weekend on a good note with a 71-59 win over Vegas Elite. This victory was a well-rounded team win, led by 15 points from Young and 14 points from Chambers. Witherspoon added 12 points, and Williams added 13 points to close it out.
With Las Vegas in the books, Legynds looks forward to Nike’s summer finale, Peach Jam, which will be a fantastic opportunity to put their skills to the test and continue to show their ability to thrive.
